Bogus Photos

So apparently the hurricane photos from the freighters are old…and maybe even bogus. Like so many things. Not much time or energy to blog about anything else these days.
Later.

Even Faster

The recent version of Net News Wire is out. This program is now even faster, my must have program I think.

If U.S. States Were Nations

Interesting graph that shows U.S. states as their equivalent nation state counterparts in terms of economic size.

Not Away, just wish I was

Hey there, sorry I have been very light on the postings these days. Have had a crazy week at work as we start a major project (full speed), negotiate a few more, and some office and staff changes. All part of struggling with ‘growth’, or so they say.
All makes me wish I’d done […]

Terror State

There Is Corruption In Our Business
“We now know that this place was a lot more terrible than even people like me had thought. There is such a thing as absolute evil. I think people just simply didn’t recognize it. They rationalized it away. I cannot tell you with what fury I listened to people tell […]

Well Said

Johnny Cash
“I am not obsessed with death — I’m obsessed with living. The battle against the dark one and the clinging to the right one is what my life is about,” said Johnny Cash (1932-2003). His death is sad news but no surpise to anyone who’s seen images of him lately. On the positive […]

Different Space

My youngest sister started law school this week at the University of Alberta. My parents moved her to Edmonton last week and I ended up with the family dog. I can tell you…there was a time when I thought I could have a dog myself (again) but my life has changed. Our […]

Ask Away

A curious link from evhead.com. Got a question ‘ask Pud?’ He certainly acts like he knows everything. I’ve got several questions I’ll be submitting.

One More In The Books

Although I don’t talk specifically about work on here too often we did just launch a new system today. The clients press release is here (but its a PDF).
It’s an interesting project. The client is an industry association. Their membership (shipowners, operators, shipagents, etc.) were concerned about all the new […]

Mud Wrestling

Is Iraq’s Oil Worth $100 Billion?
“The Earth is abundantly supplied with energy.  Why are we mud-wrestling with Iraqis when we could be working around the source of their power?”

Business Process Outsourcing

Enterprise Software Is So Boring
“Ben Hammersley, writing from Afghanistan, notes that president Karzai’s bodyguards are provided by DynCorp, which was recently acquired by the innocuous sounding Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC).
Reading the solutions tab on the Computer Sciences Corporation website you get the same boring options listed on just about every generic enterprise tech company website: […]

Locking Up Content

Login Successful.
“But I’ll say once again, to all the publishing folks who refuse to listen (and they are legion), What little you gain in subscriber leverage and sales of old articles by putting your “content” behind a costwall is far more than offset by lost authority. When none of your stuff can be found on […]

What The Hell?

Well DNS problems on my end…basically forgetting a key password, etc….caused a major outage in my site over the last week. I’m kind of surprised how many people noticed. Good thing at work our SLA guarantees are better.
So much to say / blog about….whew….better have a nap.
